May be an easy fix, I don't know. And neither the light nor the radio will work off of the rechargeable battery. It will power the light while I'm cranking, but not the radio (or maybe I just can't crank hard enough to get any volume).
Its primary purpose for me is to allow me to listen to radio in an emergency situation, when I don't have power. I moved about a year ago, and played with it again when I was unpacking, and all was well. I've owned this radio for approximately three years now.
When I heard others talking about emergency radios recently, I pulled it out of its drawer again, and found out that some time in the last 10 months, its dynamo system quit working. I haven't taken it apart yet, but for anything billed for "emergency" use, I shouldn't have to. I played with it a few times over the last three years, and put it away for an emergency.
Fortunately, I never had one.
I live in the Philadelphia area with plenty of stations to choose from, but very few can be tuned in with this radio. The reception for this radio is so poor, that the few stations I can tune in to are full of static and difficult to understand. I can't recommend this radio to anyone. I purchased the Grundig FR200 Emergency Radio as part of an emergency kit I'm putting together. Unfortunately I'll have to find another radio.
we were able to keep informed by an area radio station, where we could get fuel, ice, and batteries, etc., and the progress of the clean-up and electrical service repair. Works almost as advertised. Don't know how well the SW receives as we didn't try it. Would recommend this radio. After a recent bad storm, we were without power for a week. This unit would get about an hour of service after cranking for about 90 seconds.
The built in "flash light" is well.whatever. But I can see where this one might be a little weak for all but the heavy s/wave stations.
At least for what I hope I don't need it for. Recommended.
A nice emergency table top news provider. Color selection was a little lean (ended up with white when my color selection said "SAND") Nice fine tuning knob for the short waves built into the main tuning knob.
Decent enough carry case. Sound was fine for information.wouldn't brag too much for music.but hey, it is like a 3" speaker.Winding action seemed solid enough for me.controls as well.
(And a real drain on the juice---use it to find the lanterns and matches and to keep from tripping over the dog but other than that).
Like other reviewers I relied on the Grundig name but this turns out to be some Chinese-made junk. I would have been much better off with a cheap transistor radio and some batteries in a drawer. Both the website and the phone number on the box are no longer valid and no one will work on this thing. I did not purchase this from Amazon. Stay away. until I tried to actually use it. I had my FR200 radio for a while and was pretty pleased with myself when the power went out. Cranking it for ten minutes yielded me about two minutes of radio time.
